[edit] Operations
Runners pass messages and/or small packages between members of numerous underground groups who are probably outlawed. The less likely possibility exists that it is simply too dangerous for these members to have contact in public. Mostly through ex-Runners, such as Mercury, everyday Runners are given such tasks. Due to the perilous nature of the job, Runners have to stay as invisible to the City Protection Force as possible.
To do this, Runners are well trained in the art of parkour, in areas of this city refurbished by Runners into Training Grounds. Parkour is a physical art, in which participants use the urban and rural areas to perform efficient movements through its structures. Runners are adept at moving quickly, vaulting, sliding, and other movements. By making use of parkour, Runners are able to spend most of their time on rooftops or within urban structures and use the environment in offense, but primarily defense, against opposition.
In addition to this, Runners are trained in some hand-to-hand combat. The purpose of this training is to be able to quickly and effeciently knock out or disarm a single opponent. These skills are useful in combatting large groups, or when a single opponent cannot be out run. Disarming allows brief use of the opponents firearm, and is often made easier when the combat move is combined with a slide or a vault of sorts.
